November 13, 2023 Regular Board Meeting

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Dr. French recognized the Caldwell High School Student Council for receiving the Outstanding Student Council Award for the 10th year in a row during the state conference. 

Members of the Caldwell High School Band were also recognized for their accomplishments. They competed at a competition at Kuna High School and took 1st place in every category. They also placed 4th at the Treasure Valley Festival of Bands Competition in Boise.

The Boys Soccer Team was also applauded for winning the District III Title for the third year in a row. 

Eliana Flores was recognized for qualifying for the State Championships in swimming where she placed 7th in the 100 m Butterfly. 

The boy’s Cross Country team also qualified for the State Championships after placing 2nd at the District Championship.


Caldwell High School Report - Nick Mendez, Student Representative from Caldwell High School, provided Trustees with an update about Athletics, Academics, and Activities. 


Canyon Springs High School Report - Jason Roblero-Lopez, Student Representative from Canyon Springs High School, provided Trustees with an update on a leadership summit, academic opportunities, and Career Technical Education Tours.

Trustees voted to approve the following items:


INFORMATION ITEMS

  • Van Buren Principal, Tyler Harding, along with several teachers and student council members presented to the Trustees how they were able to raise money through various fundraisers for a drinking fountain in the 4th/5th grade hallway. The District will cover the cost of installation.

  • CSD Calendar and Important Dates

  • No one signed up for patron input.

REGULAR AGENDA

  • Accelerated Learning Program Update - Gena Chaney, ALP Coordinator, spoke to Trustees about the changes within the program. Students now receive instruction at their homeschool. They will travel to Lewis and Clark once a month for an enrichment day. The program now encompasses grades 1st-5th.
  • Donation to CHS - Caldwell High School recently received a donation/sponsorship to update their reader board. CapEd and Superior Signs are partnering with Caldwell High School to help install it and cover the entire cost. Trustees voted to approve the donation to Caldwell High School for a new reader board.
  • Resolution: Early Prevention, Identification, and Intervention of Chronic Absences - Board Members voted to approve the Resolution for Early Prevention Identification and Intervention of Chronic Absences. 
  • 2023-2024 Calendar Request - Trustees heard from Melissa Langan, Chief Academic Officer, about modifying the release time for secondary to noon and elementary to 1:00 pm on Friday, December 22, 2023, Wednesday, May 22, 2024, and Thursday, May 23, 2024. Students will receive lunch before they leave school. Board Members voted to accept the 2023-2024 Calendar Request.
  • Future Agenda Items - Trustees did not discuss any future agenda items.
