SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Dr. McDaniel, Lewis and Clark Elementary School Principal, introduced three teachers who showcased the success of the school’s four learner dispositions and how these are helping their students take control of their learning.


Dr. French also recognized the Pharmacy Technician class available at Caldwell High School. Three students involved in the program spoke about how this Career Technical Education course has helped prepare them for their life after graduation. These students will be certified in Pharmacy Tech before they walk the stage on May 24th. 


Stone Stills, Senior at Caldwell High School, presented Trustees with an American Flag he welded for the District Office. Caldwell High School’s welding team recently competed at the State Competition where they came out victorious. The team will compete at the Rocky Mountain shootout next week.


Paul Victoriano, Student Representative from Caldwell High School, provided Trustees with an update about the Student Council Regional Conference. Student representatives from the sophomore class shared some information from their presentation about the importance of culture and diversity in leadership.

  • Nicole Tackle provided input on Policy 5360 Employee Dress and Appearance and Policy 4105 Public Participation.
 

REGULAR AGENDA

  • College Of Idaho Legacy Declaration - Melissa Langan, Chief Academic Officer, spoke to Trustees about the District's partnership with the College of Idaho Men’s Basketball Team. The Board voted to declare Friday, April 14, 2023, as The College of Idaho Legacy Day in the Caldwell School District.
  • Save My Family - Trustees voted to accept the recommendation of Dr. French to host a Save My Family event for Caldwell School District families. The event is geared towards providing parents with tools, insights, and resources to help families understand obstacles that impact students psychological, emotional, and physical well-being.
  • Screenagers - Dr. Ferro spoke to Board Members about a documentary titled Screenagers, Growing Up in the Digital Age. This video was created by professionals who work with students and shows the impact of too much screen time on youth. Trustees voted to approve the District documentation to show the movie screenagers.
  • Nic Sick: The Dangers of Youth Vaping - Emily Sherman, Guidance Technician at Caldwell High School, spoke to Board Members about an Idaho Public Television documentary on the dangers of youth vaping. This documentary features teens from across Idaho who talk with heartbreaking authenticity about their struggles to overcome vape addiction. Trustees voted to approve the District recommendation to pursue showing the Nic Sick: The Dangers of Youth Vaping documentary. 
  • May 24 - Trustees approved the request to release students 30 minutes early on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, so teachers can attend Caldwell High School Graduation at 3:00 pm at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.
  • COVID-19 School Operation Plan for 2022-2023 - Trustees reviewed recent COVID-19 data and information provided by Southwest District Health.
  • Future Agenda Items - Trustees did not discuss any future agenda items.
