November 28, 2022 Board Work Session

CSHS Building 21 Update and Mastery Based Learning - Christine McMillien, Principal of Canyon Springs High School, Amy Huhtala, Instructional Coach, and Chad Lawson, CSHS  teacher, provided Trustees with an update on the Mastery Based Learning program. They shared information on student progress, mentoring, and community partnerships. With Building 21 and Mastery Based Learning in its inaugural semester, teachers and students are already noticing considerable positive outcomes from the program.


Proposed Policy 3281 Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation for Legal Review - Trustees reviewed and discussed Proposed Policy 3281 with Amy White, the Caldwell School District Attorney. The policy will go back to the Policy Committee for further review.  


Expulsion Hearings - Trustees discussed several scenarios surrounding student expulsion hearings with District Attorney, Amy White.


High School Health Curriculum -  District Attorney, Amy White, agreed that the Caldwell School District health curriculum follows the guidelines set forth in Idaho law. She shared information about curriculum adoption and noted the District’s policies surrounding the health curriculum meets Idaho standards.


COVID-19 School Operation Plan for 2022-2023 - Trustees did not receive a COVID-19 update from Southwest District Health. 


Future Agenda Items - Trustees did not discuss any future agenda items.


Adjournment - The Board of Trustees will meet again on Monday, December 12, 2022, at 7:00 pm for the Regular Board Meeting at the Caldwell School District Office, Vernon DeMark Board Room, 1502 Fillmore, Caldwell, Idaho, 83605.
