June 13, 2022 Regular Board Meeting

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT


Dr. French recognized 5th grade Lewis and Clark Elementary student Lincoln Hunt for placing 2nd in the State of Idaho for his National History Day presentation. Lincoln chose the bubonic plague, also known as the Black Death, for his history day project. For the competition, Lincoln created a poster board, wrote a paper, and delivered a presentation. Lincoln is also involved in the Advanced Learning Program at Lewis and Clark Elementary.


Dr. French also applauded Maggie Stover, Environmental Education Teacher at Syringa Middle School, who was the Idaho Environmental Secondary Educator of the Year. Ms. Stover was presented the award by the IDEEA Board during this year’s Sustainability Summit. We are so grateful for all Ms. Stover does with SMS students in environmental education.

REGULAR AGENDA

  • Community Schools - Hortensia Hernandez, Community Schools Liaison, gave a presentation on the growth, impact, and expansion of Community Schools throughout the District. Ms. Hernandez along with building principals of Sacajawea, Washington, and Lincoln Elementary Schools have witnessed the impact Community Schools is having on students, staff, and families.
  • Fee Hearing - April Burton, Chief Financial Officer, proposed an increase in fees for the Adult Lunch Price and Driver Education Fee. Trustees approved to accept and adopt the proposed fee increases for Adult Lunches from $4.00 to $4.25 and Driver Education from $200.00 to $225.00. 
  • Budget Hearing - Trustees heard from April Burton, Chief Financial Officer, on the proposed 2022-2023 District Budget. The Board voted to accept and adopt the budget as presented.
    • Public Comment: Members of the Board heard from Nicole Trakel on special education transportation services, salary of classified staff, and building maintenance. 
  • COVID-19 School Operation Plan for 2021-2022 - No update was provide from SWDH and no student and staff testing due to summer break.
  • Future Agenda Items - Review policy 613
