August 8, 2022 Regular Board Meeting

Below is a summary of the Caldwell School District Board of Trustees August 8, 2022, Regular Board Meeting intended to provide information about board decisions in a timely manner. It is not the official record. The recorded live stream of the meeting is available here.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Dr. French recognized incoming Caldwell High School Freshmen Maylee McConnell-Soong and Keira Ferro for attending the 4-H True Leaders in Equity Institute in Washington D.C. over the summer. These motivated teens used their time and experience to develop a community health equity project, to be implemented over the coming school year. They are in the process of applying for grant funding to support their creation of an educational campaign for their peers and school staff that focuses on the immediate impact of proper hydration and nutrition on mental health, academic achievements, and athletic performance.

Recognizing that our schools are the primary source of meals and nutrition for many families in our community, Maylee and Keira are hoping to lay a foundation for systems and policy changes that will increase access to healthy foods and improve support for proper hydration practices within their school system. Maylee and Keira are supported by local University of Idaho Extension staff and the Well Connected Communities National Health Initiative. They look forward to welcoming other students, district staff, and community members onto this project team.
