November 8, 2021 Regular Meeting

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT


Dr. French asked Anita Wilson, Principal of Caldwell High School, to highlight the accomplishments of the school's fall sports. Freshman Delilah Tellez, placed 17th at Districts and qualified for the State Championship. The girls soccer team qualified for the State Tournament for the first time since 2003 and placed third at Districts. The Idaho High School Activities Association awarded the girls soccer team with the sportsmanship award. The boys soccer team brought home another district title and played for the Consolation Title in the State Tournament. For the sixth time in nine years, CHS had the player of the year along with 12 players earning all conference awards. 


Ms. Wilson also highlighted the Trio Upward Bound program at CHS. On Monday, three students and Mr. Josh Engler, teacher of Trio-Upward Bound, attended a ceremony at the Capitol building where Governor Brad Little made a proclamation making November 8th First Generation College Day. CHS students, Alejandra Mayorga, Julissa Hernandez Alejandre, and Annai Aguilera got to share their stories about being the first generation in their family to attend college.

  • Trustees heard from a patron about the 2021-2022 COVID-19 School Operation Plan about the mask mandate and quarantine procedures.

REGULAR AGENDA

  • LOVE Caldwell - Trustees heard from Barb Moody and Debbie Kraft representatives from LOVE Caldwell, a Caldwell Training Initiative on Human Trafficking. Represenatives asked members of the Board to give permission to advertise their flyer about human trafficking awarness. Statistics show children as young as middle and high school can be victims
  • Canyon County Update - Members of the Board heard from Bryan Taylor, Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney about gangs in Canyon County. Mr. Taylor presented information to Trustees about the growing number of drugs and gang activity in the community. 
  • Audit Presentation -  April Burton, Chief Financial Officer, introduced Theresa Flannary who completed the audit on the Financial Statements and Supplemental Information for the district. The presentation included basic financial information, required financial information, other financial information, and annual federal compliance section. The Board voted to approve the audit.
  • Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) - Dr. French explained an error in the graduation numbers that were submitted to the state. The correct numbers have been recorded and Dr. French asked the board to approve the revised CIP plan. Trustees voted to approve to accept the resubmitted CIP plan with the graduation data.
  • COVID19 School Operation Plan for 2021-2022 - Due to the recent approval of the Pfizer vaccine available for children 5-11 years old, the Board revisited the mask requirement. This was one of the three conditions the Board identified in order to revisit the mask expectation.

After reviewing and discussing recent COVID-19 data and information, Trustees voted to recommend masks. Masks have been required for all students and staff since August. The recommendation will take effect on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. The Board will continue to review COVID-19 data and absentee reports for both students and staff. The Board will revisit the mask expectation in the coming weeks if necessary.

  • Trustee Rezoning - The Board voted to accept the redesigned map of the trustee zones. 
  • Teacher Measures of Student Achievement - Trustees voted to accept the IPLP as presented.
