Below is a summary of the Caldwell School District Board of Trustees April 8, 2019 meeting intended to provide information about board decisions in a timely manner. It is not the official record. INFORMATION ITEMS/REPORTS
Caldwell Foundation for Educational Opportunities Outstanding Student Achievement Award — Van Buren Elementary School Principal Melissa Langan introduced music teacher Dave Cole. Mr Cole introduced some of the school's students who give up their morning recess to sing in a choir or learn to play ukulele. The students performed “Swing Low” for the Board.
Student Spotlight: Caldwell High School teacher Jeff Nelson introduced students who received superior ratings at a District III solo and ensemble competition.

Public Feedback
Caldwell Education Association President Kelly Garey asked the Board to consider changing two proposed work/professional development days to full work days on the proposed 2019-20 School Year Calendar.

The Board approved its consent agenda.
REGULAR AGENDA
Treasure Valley Community College - Introduction to Aviation – Kaitlin Brookshire of TVCC provided a brief overview of this new three-credit Advanced Opportunity class for Caldwell students age 16 or older. The class started on April 6. Students attend on Saturdays and learn about aviation history and careers. They will practice on a flight simulator, tour the airport, learn from a licensed pilot and get 40 minutes flying with a pilot. The Board approved the Introduction to Aviation Program.
Davis Demographics – Chief Financial Officer April Burton updated that information for this study was gathered and ready to be provided to the contractor.
2019-20 School Year Calendar – The Board approved a modified Option C to make Oct. 11, 2019 and March 13, 2020 full work days and approved it for the 2019-2020 School Year. Note: With the Board decision, final calendars will be produced and shared.
Third District Guardian Ad Litem – The Board was invited to a fundraiser for this program April 26 at Indian Creek Steakhouse.
All Day Kindergarten – Julie Mead shared that the district will expand full time kindergarten with certified teachers to all elementary schools. The expansion is possible thanks to increased state funding for literacy.
