Below is a summary of the Caldwell School District Board of Trustees Nov. 11, 2019 meeting intended to provide information about board decisions in a timely manner. It is not the official record. The minutes, which are the official record of the meeting, are finalized the following month after approval by the Board.


AGENDA

 

Chairman Chuck Stout asked veterans attending the meeting to stand for recognition and introduced newly elected trustees Andrew Butler and Manuel Godina, who will take office in January. 

 

CALDWELL FOUNDATION FOR EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES (CFEO) OUTSTANDING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD & RECOGNITIONS 


  • Syringa Middle School Principal Shay Swan introduced several outstanding students who were recognized for perfect attendance, honor roll, and scholar of the month.

  • Caldwell High School varsity and junior varsity boys soccer teams were recognized for their back-to-back championship seasons.

  • Caldwell High School senior Crystal Medina shared how CHS students who participated in the Caldwell Youth Forum and Sources of Strength work are supporting a positive culture at the school through several projects.

The Board approved the following items on its consent agenda:

 

REGULAR AGENDA


Advanced Opportunities – Caldwell High School Principal Anita Wilson reviewed highlights (posted below) from the past three years for students taking college level classes while in high school and earning college credit. The district met or exceeded Board goals for Advanced Placement courses, dual credit courses, and Career Technical Education. Students Crystal Medina and Elisa Davis shared how they are using these opportunities to support their goals. 


Supplemental Levy Proposal and Adoption  


The district’s current two-year supplemental levy expires in June. The levy provides $2.5 million each year. Chief Financial Officer April Burton reviewed information shared at the Board’s Oct. 28 work session about identified needs and the district’s recommendation to ask voters to renew the levy at $4.1 million each year.  


Trustees discussed the information presented and a pending report from Davis Demographics. The Board voted to table the matter until December. The Board would need to decide the levy by Jan. 20, 2020 for it to be placed on the March 10, 2020 ballot.
