Driver's Education

DRIVER'S EDUCATION REGISTRATION FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR IS NOW OPEN

Please know attendance is mandatory:

  • Idaho State Law requires 30 hours of class time 
  • A minimum of six (6) hours behind the wheel 
  • A minimum of six (6) hours of observation time. 

Students must submit a Verification of Compliance (VOC):

Permits from the DMV are required prior to online registration: 

  • Please obtain your permit as soon as possible
  • Please have the DMV send the permit to:
    • Caldwell School District, 1200 Grant St. Caldwell, ID 83605.
  • The price of a Driver's License Permit is $21.50

Caldwell School District Driver Education classes are provided through IDLA

  • Students must pass the IDLA coursework with an 80% or above
  • Students must complete the IDLA coursework within the required timeframe

Students must be available to drive during the week/weekend during scheduled drives:

  • Students missing two drives will be dropped from the session without a refund

Students may register for one of the following sessions:

FALL: September 15, 2025 - October 24, 2025

WINTER: January 12, 2026 - February 20, 2026

SPRING: February 23, 2026 - April 10, 2026

SUMMER: June 2026 - TBA

Sessions are limited and fill up quickly: 

  • Students may enter their name on a waiting list 

A mandatory Parent Meeting will be held before the start of the session:

  • Parents will be notified prior to the Parent Meeting whether or not they can use Advance Opportunity funds to pay for the class
  • The cost of the class is $225.00
  • Parents will receive an information packet that details their role and responsibilities
  • IF a student is using their Advance Opportunities Fast Forward Funds and decides not to take the class, after signing the contract, their account will be charged and the student will receive an "F" for this class on their transcript 

Driving Instructors contact students through their Caldwell School District email:

  • Instructors may reach out to parents using the District’s approved communication systems
  • Instructors will NOT contact students personally through text messaging or by calling the student’s personal cell phone number

The driving permit receipt received from the DMV does not allow you to drive with anyone except a certified licensed driver's education instructor:

  • After successfully completing the course, the student and parents will need to attend a final meeting where the student will be given the certificate of completion and their permit
  • Students will then be allowed to drive with a legal licensed 21 year old or older adult

The Caldwell School District does not reimburse from Fast Forward Funds for courses taken at other schools.
