Teachers are starting to think about the possibility of going back to remote learning in the coming days and weeks. There is a fantastic Playlist on OTIS designed specifically for Caldwell educators by Caldwell educators that is focused on how to use Google tools if we are in "red" that is called "Google/Remote Learning".  This set of courses is focused on classroom management and organization within Google while teaching remotely!  Check it out!!

The most frequently viewed course last week was "G Suite" Google Drawings". This 34-minute long class covered topics like the basics of using the Google Drawing tool, the benefits of allowing students to add drawings to their learning, and great information about building charts, mindmaps, and diagrams.  Google Drawing is a fantastic tool to pu tin your digital learning toolbox.  Check it out!!

With Caldwell High school moving back into fully remote learning for a couple of weeks, teachers are starting to explore the options that OTIS provides for learning to work with secondary students in the content area of math.  Even if you don't teach math, you might find some helpful strategies in the playlist called "Secondary Math".  Exit tickets, video captioning, and PearDeck all show up in this super cool pathway of classes.  Check it out!!

Finding ways to engage students with digital lessons is really important!  Based on OTIS viewing habits this week, it seems like Caldwell teachers are looking for digital tools that will help them solve this issue. The most frequently viewed course last week was "Using PearDeck for Google Slides".  This 39-minute course covers topics like how to install and access the PearDeck extension for Slides, how to add questions and use different PearDeck templates, and how to review student assessment data in the program. Check it out!!

As our elementary teachers settle into a hybrid learning schedule, many of them are looking for ways to help support their students during the portion of the day that the students are not in their classrooms.  Creating interactive vocabulary activities is a great way to allow students to practice their reading skills at home and Caldwell Elementary teachers have developed a great OTIS Playlist called "Literacy in Primary Classrooms" that includes a class on how to do that!  Check it out!!

Communication with families is important and OTIS has courses that can help expedite that communication process.  The most frequently viewed course last week was "Using Remind to Communicate with Students and Parents".  This 41-minute long class covered a variety of topics, including what Remind is, how to use the website, and how this tool can be used for teachers to communicate with parents and students.  Check it out!!

Since two of our top OTIS users for the month of September are science teachers, maybe it is no surprise that our top playlist for the week is the "Taking Science into Remote Learning" playlist.  This set of classes includes 9 different classes and would be useful to many PK-12 teachers, even if you don't teach science.  It has a great class on taking digital field trips with students that will help engage students in learning across a variety of content areas.  There is also a newly added class on using STEM to expand ELL students' vocabulary.  Check it out!!

The most frequently viewed course last week was "Introduction to Cybersecurity".  This 29-minute long class covered topics like cybersecurity basics, potential risks, how to stay safe online with passwords and privacy, and strategies for teaching cybersecurity.  All of these are great mental sticky notes to have as we help our students learn to navigate a digital world.  Check it out!!

Many teachers are working hard right now to make social and emotional connections with their students through distance learning.  FlipGrid is proving to be a fantastic tool for helping teachers to make these SEL connections.  There is a fantastic Playlist on OTIS designed specifically for Caldwell educators by Caldwell educators that is focused on SEL that is called "Social Emotional Learning in a Digital Space" and has an entire 30-minute class on using FlipGrid more effectively!  Check it out!!

Teachers are starting to use our OTIS platform as a great place to locate on-demand coursework that is specific to their professional needs.  The most frequently viewed course last week was "Remote Learning: Things to Consider".  This 22-minute long class covered a variety of topics, including setting goals and expectations, providing student access, and providing content like activities, notes, and quizzes that might be useful for consideration by all Caldwell educators.  Check it out!!
