While many teachers in our district (especially those practicing Standards Based Grading) might choose to keep assignments and gradebooks open for longer than a single grading period to allow students to redo work, some teachers find it useful to be able to close or lock certain assignments or even an entire grading period so that students can no longer submit late or missing assignments.  As we approach the end of 1st quarter (for K-8) and the end of 1st semester (for 9-12). here are some ways to either close assignments in your gradebook or start over fresh for the new grading term!
