Welcome to the Special Education Services for Caldwell School District. We offer a continuum of services for students from preschool through age 21 that address a variety of student and family needs and concerns. Our program goals, curriculum and materials are developmentally appropriate and focused towards meeting the individual needs of students.
The district, in cooperation with parents and nonpublic school agencies, engages in Child Find services throughout the school year. Child Find activities are conducted (1) to create public awareness of special education programs, (2) to advise the public that students who qualify for services have the right to a free appropriate public education and confidentiality protections, and (3) to alert community residents that a process exists for identifying and serving children with disabilities from the age of 3 through the semester in which they turn 21.
If you know of a child who is 3 through 21 years of age who may have individual needs that result from disabilities or developmental delays, and who is not enrolled in a school special education program, please contact the school's principal or teacher where the child attends for school age children and Sylvia Garcia, 455-3300, for children from 3 to 5 years old. These children may have significant difficulty walking, talking, hearing, or learning, or may display behaviors that appear significantly different from other children their age.
Children living in the Caldwell School District between the ages of 3 and 5 are encouraged to go through a screening process. The screening is to find children who may have a developmental delay, however, the screening is open to any child. They must be 3 prior to the screening date and the CSD does not screen children that are 5 and eligible for kindergarten. An appointment is required. All screenings will be held at the district office. Contact the district office at 455-3300 if you have questions.

If you have specific questions, please contact the special education department in your child's school or call 455-3300.
According to school board policy the Caldwell School District No. 132 hereby gives notice that special education records are no longer needed to provide educational services to individuals with disabilities who were enrolled in the district as a student prior to the year 2009 and have since left the district. The district will destroy these special education records by April 11, 2016. Destruction of these records is the best protection against improper and unauthorized disclosure.
Please be aware that if you have special education records on file with the school district, these records may be needed for social security benefits or for other purposes in the future. If you wish to review the file or keep the file for your own records, please make the request to the Caldwell School District No. 132, Special Education office within 45 calendar days.
