Below is a summary of the Caldwell School District Board of Trustees, January 8, 2024, Annual and Regular meeting intended to provide information about board decisions in a timely manner. It is not the official record. The recorded live stream of the meeting is available here.

ANNUAL ORGANIZATION MEETING:

Each year, School District Boards of Trustees hold an Annual Meeting, as required by law, to elect officers and other required business.

• Elect Board Officers (Chairman and Vice-Chairman) - Trustees nominated Marisela Pesina as Chair and Trustee Travis Manning as Vice Chair of the Board.
• Elect Treasurer and Clerk - Trustees nominated Manuel Godina as Treasurer and Keely Cheney as Board Clerk.
• Set Time, Date, Place for Meetings - Trustees approved their regular meetings for the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 pm. They also identified dates and times for board work sessions. 
• Established agenda and notice posting locations, including those required by law. Agenda and notice postings will continue to be posted at the District Office and on the District Website.
• Established signatories, unless already indicated in district policy. Signatories will stay the same.

• Oath of Office - Trustees Manuel Godina, Travis Manning, and Andrew Butler were sworn in for their four-year terms.
• Reviewed the Code of Ethics for Trustees - Madam Chair Pesina read the Code of Ethics after which all Trustees signed the document.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Dr. French plans to have Nathaly Gibson, Director of Child Nutrition, attend the next Board Meeting to provide an update to Trustees on the program's success.

Madam Chair Pesina also participated in an interview with KTVB last week about the new mariachi program that will begin next school year. 

Caldwell High School Report - Nick Mendez, Student Representative from Caldwell High School, provided Trustees with an update on the CHS band, choir, robotics, and winter athletics teams.

REGULAR AGENDA

• Supplemental Levy Resolution - Trustees heard from Cheryl Sanderson, Chief Financial Officer, on the District's Supplemental Levy Resolution. Board Members voted to approve the Supplemental Levy Resolution. This will be submitted to Canyon County for the official ballot language.
• Day on the Hill Registration - Trustees will let the Clerk of Board know if they plan to attend Day on the Hill, February 19-20, 2024. 
• Communicating as Leaders Workshop Registration - Trustees will let the Clerk of Board know if they plan to attend the Communicating as Leaders Workshop on January 23, 2024, from 5:30 - 9:00 pm, in the Boardroom at the Boise School District Office.
• Family Night: Screenagers, Caldwell Public Library - The District is hosting a Screenagers Movie Night at the Caldwell Public Library on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 6:30-8:30 pm. This film addresses the issues of youth screen time. 
• Future Agenda Items - Trustees did not discuss any future agenda items.
