$4,500 given to charities posted 02/08/2010
By JSwindell,
The students at Caldwell High raised $4,500 to help charities in the Caldwell community. The students held several fundraisers last week and will give $800 each to Agency on Aging (Alzheimer's), Humphries Diabetes Center, American Cancer Society and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The students will give $400 each to the Treasure Valley Autism Society and Idaho Autism Society, and $500 to the American Red Cross for Haiti.
Students and adults also donated their hair to help cancer patients — 16 students and adults got their hair cut during a Monday assembly while six already had it cut and donated. Four years ago, one of the teachers at Caldwell High School was diagnosed with breast cancer. The Student Leadership class wanted to do something special for her. She wanted something special done for others. Through discussions and debates, the Student Council instituted Support Your Cause Week at Caldwell High. In the past 3 years, that Student Council led by advisor Cheryl Adams has raised $15,000 dollars and donated it to Humphrey's Diabetes Center, Alzheimers Society of Idaho, Parkinsons Foundation, American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Middleton High School Student Council, and Cassie Zeimantz.
All of our Causes have touched the lives of everyone we know. We are hoping that our fundraising will help end the devastation to families caused by these diseases.
The Student Council at Caldwell High is practicing service to others. The kids are truly becoming "The Change you want to see in the World". --Ghandi
