The third graders at Lewis & Clark Elementary celebrated their great success on the Winter IRI. The third graders prepared for the IRI by setting an individual fluency goal.  The goals were written down and posted on the classroom doors as a daily reminder to keep their eyes on the prize. The prize?  Achievement, pride ... and a Root Beer Float.

The goal-setting turned out to have a very positive effect. The testing was greeted by enthusiasm as each third grader went in, determined to do their best and reach their goal. And almost every student did!

As a whole, the grade level also had great results! In the fall, 36 percent of the third grade was proficient on the IRI.  Now, 63 percent of the third grade is proficient!!  That's a gain of 27 percent!

The third graders will be making new goals for the May IRI and they hope to have even more spectacular results!
