On August 28, 2008, the first day of school, the TLC students were given a challenge — to complete 1,000 push-ups in one day by the end of the school year. The TLC program aims to build strong relationships with students through building strong minds and bodies. Training started with 50 per day beginning the first week and added 10 push ups per day until they reached a daily total of 250; which were continued on a daily basis.
The fitness organization, Bodybuilding.com, heard about the challenge and decided to sponsor the event as a part of their commitment to community service. Representatives checked in on the progress of the students throughout the year.
The Push-Up Challenge took place on May 12, 2009. Colin Eggleston, Mike Caughey and Adam Morrison from Bodybuilding.com were there to encourage, motivate and officiate the challenge.
The students, who range in age from 8-16, tackled with zest and vigor what appears to most of us to be an insurmountable challenge! Without exception, every student rose to the challenge. Ten-year-old student Jacob Hunter said, "The best part of the challenge was knowing that I can set another goal in life and finish it."
For their efforts, the students earned completion certificates from TLC and fitness gear donated by Bodybuilding.com. Bodybuilding.com is an Idaho company dedicated to fostering fitness in our local communities.
