Four Selected for the All-Northwest Music Conferenceposted 01/31/2013
Outstanding music students from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming have received top honors by being selected to participate in one of our 2013 NAfME(National Association for Music Education) All-Northwest performing groups. The students listed below will join over one thousand other outstanding high school student musicians in this gala event.
NAfME All-Northwest high school bands, orchestra and choirs will meet in Portland, Oregon February 14-17. They will rehearse and perform in concert under the direction of world-renowned conductors. These All-Northwest musicians were selected through auditions to participate in this outstanding event.
Caldwell High School is proud to announce that seniors Heidi Olsen, Camille Leavitt, Cameron McCue and Randy Bauer have been selected for the All-Northwest Honor Orchestra, (Olsen and Leavitt), Mixed Choir (McCue) and Honor Band (Bauer).
Heidi Olsen, concertmaster of the Caldwell High School Symphonic Orchestra and Chamber Players, under the direction of Gini Rosandick, has been playing violin for seven years and is a private student with Paula Stern. She has been a member of the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for four years and was also a member of the Idaho All-State Honor Orchestra during her freshmen and junior years. Heidi competed in the state solo competition last year and received seventh place in the violin category.
Camille Leavitt, section leader of the viola section in the Caldwell High School Symphonic Orchestra and Chamber Players, has played viola for eight years and studies private lessons with Dave Johnson. Camille was selected to be a member of the All-State Orchestra for two years and this will be her second time as a member of the All-Northwest Honor Orchestra. Last year, Camille placed first in the state solo competition for viola. Both Camille and Heidi received a scholarship from the Boise Chamber Music Society for the quartet competition held at BSU last spring.
Senior Randy Bauer is the trumpet section leader of the Caldwell High School Wind Ensemble and Jazz I under the direction of band instructor, Meghan Olswanger. Randy studies trumpet privately with Randy Towery and he is also a member of the Boise Philharmonic Youth Symphony. Randy was selected to participate in the All-State Honor Band for two years, he has participated in the BSU All-Star Honor Band for four years and the Canyon County Honor Band for three years. This fall, Randy served the Cougar Marching Band as their Drum Major. Randy was awarded full scholarship to attend the BSU Chamber Music Summer Camp and the Great Basin Jazz Camp.
Cameron McCue has been a member of the All-State Honor Choir, American Choral Directors All-Northwest Honor Choir, and the Canyon County Honor Choir, (three years). Cameron is a senior member of the Caldwell High School Madrigals under the director of choral director Dave Burton. Cameron studies private voice with Kristi Foreman and he has competed at the state solo festival twice in his high school career, placing fourth last spring in the tenor division.
